Hi, Welcome to B & L Hunter Farm, we are Lionel (Lonnie) & Belinda Hunter. We have 3 great sons who take time out of their busy schedules to help us out when needed. They all have families, all together we have six beautiful grandchildren.
We live in Bains Corner, a small community outside the little fishing village of Saint Martins.
I was born and raised on a farm in Sackville, N.B., Lonnie worked on a farm here in Bains Corner for Franklin Farms. We met when my family moved up here, my Dad worked for Mr. Franklin as his herdsman.
We started out as a hobby farm in 1982, one trip to a Purebred Hereford sale in Sussex, was all it took to fall in love with the hearty, easy going Hereford Cattle. So it didn’t take us long to jump in with both feet. We chose the Herefords because of their temperament, mothering ability, efficiency, easy keepers.
Half of our herd are purebred Herefords and the other half are commercial with Hereford influence. Our goal is to produce cattle that are excellent breeders and great tasting beef that will please both the purebred industry and the consumers.
We have gone one step further and opened up our own little meat shop, which we call “Bens Meat Shop” to make a long story short, Ben is my nickname. People like to know what is in the meat they are eating, so we decided to try our hand at it and give them home grown natural beef. We also have local pork and hopefully soon some local chickens.
So if you are ever in the area, stop in the door is always open and the coffee pot is always on.
